Higgy Bears was started by founder Lauren, a lifelong scoliosis patient. One day during treatment she came up with the idea to create something to support people out there like her that felt alone suffering from scoliosis.
This is when the idea of creating Higgy Bears was born. Designing a stuffed animal that possessed the same back brace and support rods as its owner gave Lauren hope that she could help provide support to others struggling with scoliosis, especially children. Each bear is fitted with its own back brace, support rods and X-Ray to mimic the process its owner has gone through.
These bears not only act as a support system for their owners but they also act as a teaching tool to others looking to understand why a back brace must be worn. To date Higgy Bears has created over 5,000 bears for children struggling with scoliosis around the world. They recently created a nonprofit division where they hope to raise enough money to donate bears to patients in children’s hospitals across the country.
